As this seed can be used as a 'tonic' for birds it is becoming more and more popular. Due to it's extremely high oil content the niger seed has actaully helped to keep a number of species such as the diminishing Goldfinch alive. This seed is extremely poular with species such as Greenfiches, Siskins, Dunnocks and also the rare to see Redpoll.

As this seed is extremely fine it would easily blow of a table and would flow straight through a conventional feeder so is really only suitable for a special Niger seed feeder.
